TANJA BRÜGGEMANN | UPPER AUSTRIA INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY

TANJA BRÜGGEMANN
07.10 — 02.11 / 2022

Opening reception : Friday, October 28, 2022 ‑ 17 h

In residence at AdMare from September 16th to October 7th, 2022, Tanja Brüggemann will initiate Already, I can hear the call – The Howl, a project that she will continue at Sporobole, in Sherbrooke, until November 2nd

During her stay in the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the artist will collect the raw material for her work; that is to say: various sounds, atmospheres and natural soundscapes. In order to do so, she will listen to the islands and the islanders, underwater and on land, using recording equipment. This data will be compiled and analyzed to create an ephemeral sound installation that she will present in the Islands and in Sherbrooke at the end of her stay.

Tanja Brüggemann’s approach in the last few years has been built around the search for the real and the artificial in the redefinition of acoustic phenomena. By creating natural soundscapes and adapting them for acoustic instruments, the artist focuses on linguistic variation patterns within societies and local populations. Her project Unheard Poetry of the Depths focused on translating sounds from the PALAOA – Perennial Acoustic Laboratory in the Antarctic Ocean into images and abstract acoustic landscapes. Her work resulted in two films that are part of the AOA cycle.

At the end of this residency, the artist will present the fruit of her research in Sporobole’s sound studio. The work entitled In The Aftermath of The Howl will be presented on October 28 at 5:00 pm
